The Castle Museum of Belesta

The Château-Musée de Bélesta is a museum of prehistory in the Pyrénées-Orientales department. Based on the collections from the archaeological site of the Bélesta cave, you will discover an exhibition of these discoveries presented in a playful way in the old medieval castle of the village. Authentic objects and life-size reconstructions allow you to imagine life in the Neolithic period (reconstruction of part of the cave with characters).

The Tautavel Prehistory Museum

It's a complex built around the Tautavel Man. It presents the entire history of humanity in Europe, from the first Europeans to the threshold of recorded history. With 152 human remains discovered, La Caune de l'Arago in Tautavel is a major site in world prehistory. It is the site where the oldest human remains in France have been discovered. The Tautavel Prehistory Museum allows you to meet these people and place them in the context of European prehistory. The museum is equally renowned for the richness of its collections as well as its interactive and cultural activities. Throughout the year, these activities enable visitors to immerse themselves in the lives of their distant ancestors.

The Byrrh Cellar Museum

On a self-guided or guided tour, explore the Byrrh Cellars in Thuir, one of the largest French companies of the 19th century. It is here that, since 1866, an aperitif made from quinine, known as Byrrh, has been crafted, a recipe invented by Simon Violet.

The palace of the Kings of Majorca

The Castillet 

The Castillet, emblem of the city of Perpignan, is the old main gate of the Perpignan wall. The main body of the building, the large Castillet, built in bricks and Baixas marble dates back to the Aragonese period. It was built from 1368 and transformed under Louis XI who added its current terrace and its brick turret crowned with a dome. The second gate, the Notre-Dame gate, was built at the same time. In the 17th and 18th centuries the building was transformed into a prison. It currently houses the Casa Pairal museum on local history and ethnography. 142 steps must be climbed to reach the top of the monument.

The Château de Quéribus

The Yellow Train of Villefranche-de-Conflent

The "Loop of the Pic Aubeil" hike

The hike "In search of the borders of 1258

Before the current border, the Roussillon was officially attached to Spain between 1258 and 1659. Very few markers of this original border remain. Starting from Bélesta, this hiking trail allows you to discover three of them as well as a cave and an ice well. It also offers breathtaking views of the Pyrenees and Corbières peaks.

The Gouleyrous gorges

The Gouleyrous gorges are a natural curiosity of the Pyrénées-Orientales. This pretty place with a swimming area and a pebble beach was carved out by the Verdouble river. Located north of Tautavel, they have the particularity of being overlooked by the Caune de l'Arago, the famous cave where the skeletal remains of the oldest European were found.
